Get to Know: Augustine of Hippo

Born Aurelius Augustinus, in the original Latin (354-430), Augustine is considered by many the most significant Christian thinker after the Apostol Paul.

Before becoming a Christian, he had a successful academic career in rhetoric. After becoming a Christian, he put that training to the service of God, eventually becoming the bishop of Hippo in a small Roman colony in North Africa where his stature and influence grew to legendary proportions.

His two most important works, Confessions, and City of God are incredibly rich and helpful in the study of Christian doctrine. Your time will be well spent reading them.

My journey to the City of God was life-altering. In some ways, I never truly left it. It is a deep well to keep coming back to in your studies and meditations.
